Doctors Who Tweet

Posted by jfuriosi on March 14, 2009

One of the most amazing things about Twitter is you can follow people who share the same interests that you have. I’ve noticed that Twitter users with the biggest followers are often those who share the hottest Internet news, buzz, and links.

But how about medical advice? It turns out there are several physicians who tweet and the list will undoubtedly grow.

Let me start with Dr. Hubbard who is a family doctor who seems responsive to those who follow him on Twitter. He has a blog called My Family Doctor. He writes for the general public in easy to read language.

Kevinmd has a blog and a lot to say about health care reform and medical issues.

Enter Doctor anonymous who has an internet radio show and is a family physician.

For information on women’s health, we have dougpmd who is a practicing OB/GYN. Another tweeting OB/GYN is Shelley Binkley.

For a pediatrician who specializes in childrens’ weight issues, there is Joanna Dolgoff. Doctor V is another pediatrician with a blog called Parenting Solved.

Michael Lara is a psychiatrist who also comments on substance abuse issues. His tweets are research-focused.

Of course Twitter wouldn’t be cutting edge without plastic surgeons like Dr. Di Saia. Another plastic surgeon is rlbates who has a blog called suture for a living. Dr Minas Chrysopoulo does breast reconstruction for those who have had breast cancer or other scarring. Hisblog. Along these lines there is a lap band and liposuction surgeon named Rachel Kiellin who blogs.

Scott Nolson says he is a Naturopathic doctor and his blog is devoted to the the dangers of sugar and other health tips.

Jeff Benabio is an expert on dermatology at dermdoc and his livestrong blog.

Vis Dimov specializes in allergies and has this blog Clinical Cases and Images.

There is a LASIK and Refractive Cataract surgeon called TheLASIKDoc who has a blog.

Unless anyone knows other twittees, dentists seem unpopular as DrDentist attests too. He needs some followers if you ask me.

Twitter search engine Twellow lists over 1,000 in its category for doctors. Keep in mind this sometimes includes followers of Dr. Who and people who aren’t licensed to practice in the medical field.
